START WITH YOUR SITUATION
The useful short answer.
All nine catalog models have an Android signing path. USB broadens your choices, but exact app support, data cables and firmware conditions still decide whether a model fits.
Compare the paths, with the conditions.
Documentation-based shortlist. Open a profile for the source links, setup and recovery details. Mobile maintenance describes a routine path; read the exception alongside it.
Trezor Safe 7 ↗
Dedicated colour touchscreen
- Signing connection
- Bluetooth / USB-C
- Maintenance
- Mobile maintenance documentedMobile firmware installation documented in Trezor Suite.
Keep this condition: On iPhone, USB-C supplies power only. Pair through Bluetooth in Trezor Suite.
Ledger Nano X ↗
Dedicated monochrome display
- Signing connection
- Bluetooth / USB-C
- Maintenance
- Check the update conditionsBluetooth: Ledger OS 2.4.1+. Older OS: wired desktop or Android required.
Keep this condition: Bluetooth OS updates require Ledger OS 2.4.1 or later. Older devices need a wired desktop or Android update first.
Tangem Wallet ↗
Phone screen only
- Signing connection
- NFC
- Maintenance
- Mobile maintenance documentedCard firmware is fixed and cannot be updated. The phone app is updated separately.
Keep this condition: Full NFC support is required. Some phones can scan a card but cannot create backups. Check your exact model.
Ledger Nano S Plus ↗
Dedicated monochrome display
- Signing connection
- USB-C
- Maintenance
- Check the update conditionsWired connection required. Confirm the current Android update instructions before purchase.
Keep this condition: Android only for mobile use. Check that your phone and cable support USB data, not just charging.
Ledger Flex ↗
2.84-inch E Ink touchscreen
- Signing connection
- Bluetooth / USB-C
- Maintenance
- Mobile maintenance documentedBluetooth updates documented for Flex. Failed-update recovery may require a computer.
Keep this condition: Routine OS updates work over Bluetooth. A device stuck in Update Mode may need Ledger Wallet on desktop.
Ledger Nano Gen5 ↗
Monochrome E Ink touchscreen
- Signing connection
- Bluetooth / USB-C
- Maintenance
- Mobile maintenance documentedBluetooth updates documented for Gen5; stuck Update Mode may require desktop recovery.
Keep this condition: NFC serves Recovery Key and Security Key features. Ordinary phone signing uses Bluetooth or supported Android USB.
SafePal S1 ↗
1.3-inch colour display and D-pad
- Signing connection
- QR codes
- Maintenance
- Computer in update guideComputer required by the official S1 upgrade guide; phone signing does not change this.
Keep this condition: SafePal explicitly says S1 firmware upgrades do not support mobile. Its documented update uses a computer and USB.
Keystone 3 Pro ↗
4-inch colour touchscreen
- Signing connection
- QR codes
- Maintenance
- Computer in update guideMicroSD or USB; official preparation requires a computer. USB updating starts from firmware 1.0.4.
Keep this condition: Both official firmware methods list a computer. Below firmware 1.0.4, the first update must use MicroSD.
Blockstream Jade Plus ↗
1.9-inch colour screen and physical controls
- Signing connection
- Bluetooth / USB-C / QR codes
- Maintenance
- Mobile maintenance documentedBlockstream app supports mobile updates after initial setup. Bluetooth must be available; no-radio firmware changes the path.
Keep this condition: Normal PIN unlocking uses a companion-mediated PIN oracle. QR mode in Blockstream app supports Bitcoin, not Liquid assets.
Choose the connection around your daily use.
USB may suit someone who wants a wired signer and is willing to carry a data cable. Bluetooth removes that cable from ordinary signing, while NFC cards suit a tap-based interaction. QR workflows move requests and signatures between screens and cameras. There is no universal winner: choose a method you can use reliably with the phone you already own.
The table separates signing from maintenance because those connections may differ. A QR wallet can still need USB and a computer for an update. A Bluetooth model may offer an Android USB fallback. Compare the whole workflow before treating one connection as a purchase requirement.
For USB, confirm data support and the app.
Nano S Plus is the wired-only Android option in this catalog. Ledger lists Android 10 or later, and the phone connection needs USB OTG/data support. A charging cable is not sufficient evidence that the app can communicate with the device. Check the appropriate cable and adapter before ordering.
Safe 7, Nano X, Flex, Nano Gen5 and Jade Plus also have documented Android USB paths. That does not make every third-party app compatible with each model. If your plan involves a particular mobile wallet, confirm its model-specific hardware integration rather than transferring a desktop compatibility claim to Android.
NFC needs more than a payment feature.
Tangem requires a phone with full NFC support. Its documentation distinguishes scanning from completing the backup process on some handsets. Look up the exact model and regional variant, and understand where the NFC antenna sits. The fact that the phone can make contactless payments is not a complete hardware-wallet compatibility check.
Tangem has no separate transaction display on the card. That is an important interaction choice if you specifically want to review an address on an independent device screen. Do not buy a screenless product expecting a later accessory or app setting to give it the same review workflow as a screened signer.
Match a QR wallet to its companion app.
SafePal S1 works with the SafePal hardware-account flow. Keystone 3 Pro connects with supported software wallets, so the chosen app determines much of the asset and network experience. Jade Plus is a Bitcoin-focused choice; the Blockstream app’s QR mode is Bitcoin-only, while supported Liquid use takes a different connection path.
Start with the network you need and find the documented mobile integration for that exact model. Check camera permission and the process for pairing a hardware account. An app can also offer a software wallet: creating one does not automatically put its keys on the hardware device.
Android is useful for maintenance, but does not remove every condition.
An Android USB connection can provide the initial update route for a Nano X below OS 2.4.1; subsequent Bluetooth updates have that minimum version condition. We keep Nano X and Nano S Plus in the “check conditions” group rather than promising every shipped unit and update state will work with your phone.
SafePal S1 firmware upgrades explicitly require a computer in the official guidance. Keystone’s USB and MicroSD update instructions also list computer preparation. Safe 7, Flex, Nano Gen5 and Jade Plus document mobile maintenance paths, each with its own requirements. Tangem card firmware cannot be updated; phone app updates are separate. Read the profile’s caveat alongside its maintenance label.
Keep a replacement plan before committing money.
A phone upgrade can change your connection options, and a lost device can force a recovery workflow you have never used. Record the app name, network and backup type in your own private setup notes. Keep secret backup material out of ordinary notes, screenshots, browser forms and support conversations.
Ask whether a replacement phone would need the same NFC capability, USB support or app availability. Ask separately what replacement signer accepts your backup arrangement. Those answers are more useful than an unsupported “future-proof” label. Follow the manufacturer’s documented verification process before relying on the setup.
Shortlist first, check the delivered cost second.
Use the Android finder with your preferred signing connection. Add the mobile-maintenance filter if routine computer access is unavailable, and read every remaining caveat. You can compare three models at once and open a profile for the detailed setup, signing, firmware and recovery evidence.
Once a model fits, compare its current official checkout total, required cable or backup accessories, shipping and return terms. We do not publish a static “cheapest” winner because those conditions vary by location. Manufacturer specifications and our interpretation are clearly separated from owner anecdotes and from hands-on testing, which we have not performed.
